Musica A Palazzo, Sestiere San Marco 2504 Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto, 30124 Venice Italy
8:30 PM
The renowned performers of Musica a Palazzo carry on the historic tradition of traveling opera with unique, intimate performances in the luxurious surroundings of Venice’s Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The elegant salons of this 15th-century palace have been restored to their original splendor and provide a historic backdrop for scenes from Italian operatic classics. Choose from adapted versions of 'The Barber of Seville,' 'La Traviata,' or 'Rigoletto' (see Itinerary below for details).

On the night of the performance, make your way to the historic palazzo in central Venice, which overlooks the Grand Canal. Upon arrival, you have the option to purchase a libretto to read a translation of the words in your selected opera. Then, take your seat among the small audience and admire the ornate surroundings and period furnishings bathed in candlelight. When the show begins, you are immersed in the sights and sounds of arias, duets, and live accompaniment as the performers enact scenes near the place where you sit.

Instead of a traditional set change, get up and move to a different salon along with the ensemble with each new scene or act. This lends an interactive element to the show and allows you to explore several different salons. Toast your evening out with a glass of Prosecco, juice, or soda during one of two brief intermissions. At the end of the experience, you have a chance to buy a CD or DVD of the opera.

I hope the hearing damage is not permanent
Emily_H
, May 2022
I feel like I have hearing damage after this experience. Having an opera singer belt three feet away from my ear was an extremely painful experience. The show should be stopped and the amount of decibels should be measured from every seat to make sure that they are not harming the audience members. It actually feels much worse than after being in a loud club all night. I hope my hearing damage is not permanent. This is totally irresponsible on the part of the event organizers. I strongly advise against anyone going to this.

Terrible 😞

First , it took us an hour to find place, it is unnoticeable place, even locals didn’t know where it’s located, everyone were complaining that is hard to find, very old building, performance so so. We being so many shows in different countries and I never had the feeling that I have know. For me and for my husband it’s waste of time, waste of money, plus being exhausted 😴 to finding place. I will not recommend to anyone.

Get there early!!
Stephania_H
, Apr 2022
The sitting arrangement was not good. If you do not get there early and are not in the first two rows, you will not be able to see anything. For the first two acts my family and I were stuck in the back and could not see anything. For the last two acts we were able to snag seats in the front and then we enjoyed the show. The opera singers are talented and their acting was good too.

You won’t be disappointed. What wonderful fun!

What a fantastic surprise to find such an intimate setting and such talented opera voices and classical musicians to accompany them. We saw “The Barbour of Saville” and it was funny and engaging. It is a perfect introduction to opera to someone who has never attended one before. Everyone in the audience was cheering at the end.

Opera the Way it Was Meant to Be

Absolutely wonderful voices in an atmospheric setting that seats only 50. The entrance is down an unlikely-looking dark alley, so be sure to obtain perfect directions before you attempt to find it. A transformative experience.

Five singers and three musicians at close range made for a breathtakingly intimate and memorable Rigoletto. Well done Travelling Opera!

Great experience but be prepared!

NEGATIVES-Wooden chairs (glad we kept moving as not too comfortable) Couldn’t see much of what was going on- so if any acting involved we would have no idea. If you don’t know the story - find out before you go, I can assure you the programme will not help you at all and we are not opera buffs so hadn’t got a clue lol POSITIVES Great night, fabulous introduction to opera, wonderful setting, perfect addition to our Venice holiday and would recommend it. Just be prepared.

Bravo

I loved how passionate the actors were! Beautiful setting and heartfelt operatic singing. The negatives are not related to the performance or the company, but about audience members. It was extremely distracting that a woman was texting next to me and then said aloud to us during the performance, “What’s the problem?” when my boyfriend tapped her to stop texting during the opera. She wouldn’t stop using her phone and continued to text throughout the entire act. It was so disrespectful to see someone act in such a manner. I also felt sorry for the actors because she was texting whilst sitting in the front row. I don’t know if it would help to have the ushers make an announcement that audience members should turn off their cell phones or not text during an opera. Sadly, this shouldn’t even have to be done at an opera.
