Riva degli Schiavoni, 4110, 30122 Venezia VE, Italy
Situated just across the Venetian Lagoon from Venice, the lovely islands of Murano and Burano are world-renowned for their traditional artisan crafts. You’ll meet up with your guide in central Venice for the short boat ride to Murano, a picturesque grouping of islands that has been home to some of the world’s finest artisan glassblowers since the 13th century.

Visit the workshop of a local glassblower to watch delicate forms take shape from molten glass through a combination of rolling, shaping with iron tools and blowing through a long metal tube. Learn tricks of the trade, like how minerals are added to give the candy-colored vases and chandeliers of Murano their vibrant hue. Enjoy some free time on the island to explore other workshops and perhaps pick up a souvenir to take home.

Hop back on the boat for the scenic ride to Burano, where traditional lacemaking workshops are scattered among the island’s brightly colored homes. Learn about the history of Burano lace and how it was once sought after by monarchs across Europe for its exquisite quality. You’ll get a chance to watch local craftswomen creating lace through a series of finely detailed weaving and stitching, carrying on a tradition that has thrived here for centuries.

If you like, visit the Burano Lace Museum on your own to delve even deeper into the history of this elegant craft. Enjoy free time to explore the island and peruse local shops before the return boat trip to Venice.
Stop At:
Isola di Murano
The enchanting islands of Murano and Burano are the perfect change of pace from Venice’s crowded streets and waterways. And the perfect way to reach them is by private water taxi. Faster and sturdier than a gondola, nimbler and less crowded than a waterbus, water taxis are the premier way to travel in Venice. Few visitors get to experience them, but yours is included, along with an expert local guide who’ll explain Venice’s history as a titan of trade along the way. Your first port of call is a specially chosen glassblowing workshop on Murano. In the Middle Ages, only Murano’s artisans possessed the secrets of this craft, and sharing them was punishable by execution. You’ll get to witness modern glassblowers wield those once secret techniques, shaping delicate and dazzling works of art from molten glass. Then admire the workshop’s finest work in its gallery, and perhaps take home a piece of your own – with a tour discount. Or explore more of Murano, including its peaceful canals and stunning Byzantine church.
Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

Stop At:
Isola di Burano
The locals of nearby Burano still maintain the island’s tradition of handmade lace, some of the finest anywhere in the world. You’ll get to observe lace being hand-stitched the way it has been for generations. Then visit the lace museum to see the island’s greatest work, or simply enjoy the photo opportunity provided by the colorful houses, brightly painted so sailors could see home as they returned from the sea. When you cross the lagoon back to Venice, you’ll have a renewed appreciation of the crafts that put the city on the map so long ago.

A great tour!
, Aug 2021
An incredibly unique experience! This tour is a great way to see Murano and Burano in a short period of time. The demonstration at the glass factory was fascinating. Our tour guide Manuela provided valuable insights on the sights (and places to eat/shop) and made the tour so lovely. Highly recommend!
A half day well spent
, Jul 2021
We recently toured Murano and Burano with the lovely, well-informed Francesca Antonini. As a true Venetian, Francesca’s love for her native home was palpable and energizing. We enjoyed her explanations of the islands, the waterways, the culture, and her many anecdotes about Venice itself. We have happy memories of our half day in Murano and Burano. Thank you Francesca and City Wonders!
Awesome Private tour with Francesca
, Jul 2021
We went ahead and went with the Private tour selection, not just because of COVID but for the personal touch that comes with just you and your guide. Our trip started with a water taxi to Murano, where we spent some time observing the a Master at the Murano Glass Workshop (pretty pricy, suggest purchasing in Venice), then toured the facility. Once we left we got on another water taxi and headed to Burano, but had a short stop at Mazzorbo which is an Island connected to Burano by a walking bridge, where we walked through a vineyard to the bridge. Once in Burano it was extremely colorful. Perfect place for some great pictures. We spent some time at the Burano Lace Shop/Museum, very nice inventory but you pay for quality. Awesome shop though and the owners and workers are extremely friendly. Had a little free time so we ate at Restaurant Galuppi, food was great and service was excellent. Then back to the water taxi and to Venice. It was an awesome ride back. It was also a short 5 hours. Could have gone maybe a little longer. But it worked out, just really hot. :) Francesca was awesome and would definitely recommend. Obviously if you are a budget the tour then stick with the regular tour, the one that left about the same time as us was about 11 people and on a bigger boat and finished at the same time.
Very nice trip

Wonderful tour of Murano & Burano; Serena was an excellent guide. We left from Saint Marks square and headed to Murano and saw a glass making factory - very interesting. After that we headed to Murano to see lace making process and then had an hour or so to explore on our own. All transports were arranged, on time, and had very pleasant personnel. I would recommend this trip to anyone who would like to visit those two locations.

Spectacular Day trip
, Jul 2021
Couldn’t of asked for a better Day Trip exploring the wonderful Islands of Murano and Burano. The sights and Glass/Lace demos were so incredible to see up close. But the real treat was Our Incredible Tour guide Antonella! She made sure we had the best possible experience at every step of the way as well as being a wealth of knowledge about anything we asked. She also took some spectacular photos of us that we will treasure forever. This tour is absolutely a must do! Thank you Antonella for making this a trip to remember. Our favorite Day in Italy by far! Love, Rory & Mitchell

Great Tour at an Amazing Price!
, Jun 2021
Francesca B was an excellent guide for our trip to Murano and Burano. She provided great and entertaining information to us and was a delight to spend the afternoon with in Venice. She went above and beyond to ensure we had a nice experience. The kids had a ton of fun learning about the culture and architecture! This is a great tour at an amazing price. I would highly recommend.

Great Island Tour & Boat Ride
, Jun 2021
Excellent cultural tour and visit to both Murano and Burano islands! Really enjoyed the glass blowing demonstration and the shopping afterwards. Burano was also a cute town with a couple of restaurants to choose from. We chose to have a quite bite and sat for only 15mins to maximize time for souvenirs and photographs. The lace shop was interesting and found a great handcrafted placemat to go with our handcrafted glass birds! For the boat you take a private water Taxi (we had 10 people in our group) instead of the slower and much larger boats with 50+ people. Highly recommend this tour!
Great escape from the city
, Jun 2021
Guilia was so friendly and did so well to manage two languages in the group. The tour was fabulous and her knowledge was really good. I would have liked longer a Bruano to make the day feel a bit more relaxed, but other than that it was great!
Murano Burano with a top guide
, Oct 2020
Our guide, Serena, was very kind and knows a lot about Venice and the different islands. She was very professional and answered all our questions with knowledge and humour.
Highly recommend - especially if you want to escape the crowded streets of Venice
, Sep 2020
Excellent trip; despite only 4 people signing up they still ran the trip (normally there is a minimum of 15 people) - we thoroughly enjoyed all aspects and had plenty of time around the organised elements to explore the two towns
