Once the seat of the powerful Venetian government, the Doge’s Palace is an architectural masterpiece filled with lavish décor. Listen to stories about Venice’s golden age, and immerse yourself in the culture of medieval Europe as you explore the stuccoed halls and artwork.

Continue to the Basilica, once the private chapel of Venice’s Doges, which you’ll tour with a private guide from the Curia di Venezia. Learn the legend of the basilica, whose Byzantine domes date to the 10th century, and follow the story on a series of 13th-century mosaics. Discover the artistic and architectural highlights of the church, including the marble inlaid floor, where animals and geometric patterns are brilliant counterpoint to the painted ceiling.

This tour concludes at the Saint Mark’s Basilica, close to Venice attractions and public transport.

Great insights

We were really impressed by literally everything we saw on this tour. And trust me, you have to walk a lot. But it is totally worth it. From the Doge’s palace and its prison to the Basilica. Great piece of history and great explanation. Must see when in Venice.

Fantastic tour. Ana was so passionate and educated about Venice. Loved it! Small group, skip the lines and a great introduction to Venice.

German tour skipped to English last minute

We booked a german tour but immediately before the tour started we got the information that there is no guide who speaks german. The whole German group - it was a small group of 7 persons which was great - had the option to join a english tour or to cancel. Everyone decided to join but the guide was very hard to understand. I think the Guide is a very experienced Italien guide with a lot of historical knowledge but it was hard to understand his Italian style English. We made several English guided tours in different countries which were all much better. Due to fact that the German tour was canceled last minute and compared to other english guides we cannot recommend this tour. Even if the guide was very sympathetic.

Misleading saying only 10 max per tour

Very disappointed in Viator. They promised a tour 10 people maximum and we were part of 17. The guide herself was very accommodating and no issue with her at all, but Viator let us down and misled us to believe it would be a smaller more intimate tour. We paid a premium for this. Their response was a $25 credit on another tour. Think twice before doing it.

Very informative tour

We really enjoyed our skip the line tour. It was very informative to go through with a guide. It was also worth skipping the queue of people waiting in the sun. I would definitely advise taking this tour.

There was a big group of us, probably about 30 people but the guide was very informative. Spoke clearly and had no problems speaking English. A good last minute tour.

Worst tour we have ever had, and we travel a lot. When we got to the area, we searched in vain for the designated meeting spot. We had to ask many, many tour guides before finding out what to do. We could have dealt with that. Our tour guide was the main problem. Our group was large maybe 50 people. The guide seemed to only be concerned with the few people around him. Twenty or thirty of us had to run to keep up this was during the WHOLE TOUR. We could not hear half of the information because the audio did not work unless you were right by the guide. Many of us complained several times, but no changes were made. We could not enjoy what little we saw or even take photos as we ran through room after room to keep up. We paid a fair amount of money for nothing. We have used Viator in the past, but never again!

The tour of the Palace and the Basilica were both excellent. It was always going to be busy, but our guide lady was good at finding a way round the crowds efficiently. She was knowledgable about the history of Venice and she did not bore us with superfluous historical facts, but provided the right level of detail with some humour thrown in. The tour, at about two and a half hours, was the right length.
