Your walking tour starts at Piazza Barberini, where you’ll meet your guide and board and air-conditioned coach to the Christian Catacombs.

Descend into the chill of Rome’s mysterious underworld with Skip-the-Line access to three of the city’s strangest discoveries.

Unmask a new side to the Eternal City as you explore the eerie Bone Chapel, adorned with the bones of 4,000 Capuchin monks, and the Christian Catacombs, a series of hidden tunnels where early Christian’s practiced their forbidden faith.

Then travel beneath the Basilica San Martino ai Monti to discover layers of ancient foundations offering an insight to civilizations long fallen.
Stop At:
Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini
Escape the noise and heat of Rome as you explore its cryptic past on the city’s longest running crypts and catacombs tour. Beat the heat with air-conditioned travel and Skip-the-Line access directly down into cool, shadowed spaces that hide layer upon layer of history. First, you’ll visit the hallowed catacombs where, beneath their persecutors’ feet, early Christians practiced their forbidden faith. Almost 2,000 years ago, this secret network of tunnels doubled as a place of worship and burial ground. As you explore tombs carved out of solid rock, your guide – a local, expert English-speaker – will relate the fascinating history of this sacred spot.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
San Martino ai Monti
When you exit the catacombs, your bus will take you back within the city walls to the Basilica of San Martino ai Monti. Near the edge of the Parco del Colle Oppio, this unassuming church dates back to the 4th century - it has been rebuilt over the years, but is filled with a great sense of history just waiting to be discovered. Stunning frescoes adorn the walls, from artists such as Pietro Testa, Matteo Riccione and Giannangiolo Canini.
Duration: 40 minutes
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Museum and Crypt of Capuchins
Your final destination is the Capuchin Crypt. Capuchin monks used the bones of nearly 4,000 of their brothers to decorate this somber space in intricate floor-to-ceiling designs, lending it the macabre nickname of ‘the Bone Chapel’. Your guide will tell you the theories, but it’s up to you to draw your own conclusions about the meaning of the crypt’s robed skeletons and vertebrae chandeliers. Open your eyes to the city’s hidden side – and you’ll never see Rome the same way again.

LOVED this tour! Our two guides were so much fun and knowledgeable! Walking through the Catacombs and learning about the history - incredible! Walking through the rooms of bones and their displays and learning of their lessons was very impactful in the messages for how to lead live! Something that I will always cherish and take to heart!
Definitely a Unique Experience

This tour was an interesting journey into a different part of Roman history that most tourists don’t include in their visits. Alain and Jonathan were both very knowledgeable and had a great way of expressing their passion to the people on the tour. They provided a lot of good background information and explanations along the way. While I wouldn’t say to do this tour over some of the other main sights in Rome if you’re pressed for time and have a short visit, this tour is a great option if you have the extra time and enjoy a unique experience — some may even say a bit macabre, but it really wasn’t with the way it was all presented. We were definitely glad we booked something so unique.

Alan and Max were knowledgeable and fun guides. I would definitely recommend this catacomb and Capuchin Crypt tour!

We missed this tour at 2:30 because our 2 hr Vatican tour (same Viator company) at 11:15 left us when we arrived at 11am to the meeting spot. She would not even give us our tickets that we paid for!!! since we had to check in at an office with hoardes of people waiting in line. We had to book a 11:30 and that guide (same company CAF city tours) took a 3 hours not 2-2.5 hrs and we were trapped since he waited until the end for the sistine chapel. we went ourselves later to Capuchin catecombs and bought tickets to Museum. We travel a lot and plan to travel more. But NeVer again with tripadvisor
Good tour

I would not call this a small group but it was a good tour. The catacombs were what I initially thought. The ending with the Carpuchin church decorated with bones was hauntingly beautiful. Must see!

Excellent guide. He was knowledgeable and did a great job staying organized. I didn’t do my research before hand so I’m very happy to have had such a great experience.

Too many people on the tour which made the sights feel rushed to visit and also made it uncomfortable from a social distancing point of view. The guide was pleasant however we didn’t appreciate so much humour being used at sacred sights.

Guides were very informative and went out of their way to detail much of the backstory and history of each tour/sightseeing aspect. Would recommend!
