A marathon and a hike, but worth it

Ariana is an amazing tour guide, First and foremost. You can tell she has the passion for her profession as she whisks the group throughout the Saint Peter’s Square, the basilica, the underneath tombs, and the Vatican museums. She has a calm demeanor and you can feel her knowledge of everywhere we went. There was so much information throughout the day, but she made everything understandable chunks at a time. As Ariana said, this is an enduring tour. You will climb stairs. And you will walk and walk climb more stairs and walk. It is a long day so make sure you eat a good breakfast or have snacks. Take complete advantage of public fountains as they are present throughout. Ariana makes sure to ask the group if anyone has needs throughout the tour. Everything leading up to the Sistine Chapel is beautiful. I am most thankful for Ariana’s explanation of The ceiling and the Last Judgment. It helped me appreciate the artwork so much more. I am appreciative that Ariana departed ways with the group prior to entering the Sistine Chapel to help observe the sacredness of the chapel. This was my favorite tour of my vacation. Grazie Mille

Not to be missed.

The English speaking guide was excellent, his knowledge was amazing. The whole tour was above and beyond our expectations. The dome climb not for the faint hearted tho.
Great guide, extremely over crowded

Our guide (Sandra) was so friendly and knowledgeable. Vatican City was busier than usual this weekend given the recent influx of tourists as well as a ceremony for the induction of a saint. Needless to say, it was chaotic; we had multiple people (coordinators, staff, or other guides) all yelling at each other and at Sandra to do one thing or another (which was very rude - we had just gotten to a spot to talk about it when another guide started yelling at her to move along and how dare she stop with her group!). However, Sandra just laughed it off - saying people are stressed out, there's lots of people etc.. she was such a good sport. Took an uncomfortable situation and turned it around for us. She kept the tour at a good pace, with relevant and interesting information. She was able to get us up and close to certain exhibits but would quickly move out of the way 'not to ruin our photos' -- which she couldn't do. She was a breath of fresh air amongst all the anxiety in the room. A note about the tour, and again, perhaps this is due to the crowds this weekend, but doing the Sistine Chapel midday - worst. idea. ever. I cannot understate this. It was shoulder to shoulder, face to back shuffle from the end of the museum into the chapel, and herded along like cattle. It was extremely hard to even take a breath let alone appreciate anything along the way. If you are going to the Vatican, I would suggest splitting up the tours and doing the Basilica / dome one day and the museum (alone), and then doing the Sistine Chapel FIRST thing in the morning another day. The crowds were un-manageable and I don't know how that was safe from a fire code perspective, let alone COVID.

My clients plane was delayed and could not make the 8a time on may 12 We were hoping to use the voucher for a future. But was not allowed. That is a shame since two other bookings were made with these customers. Karen Hrit

Dear Karen, We're sorry to hear about your client's flight delay, and they they weren't able to join this tour. As a travel professional yourself, however, you must understand that: 1) Booking tours on the day of an overseas flight arrival is risky for this very reason - which is why always advise against it. 2) Terms and conditions exist for a reason. We do allow cancellations and changes up to 24 hours prior, but beyond that sadly it's not possible to simply reschedule a tour in peak season when tours are fully booked days in advance, and tickets have already been purchased for your clients and can no longer be refunded. 3) Emerging from a global pandemic, we strongly advise clients to purchase travel insurance to cover any risks of cancellation. You mention multiple bookings for these clients, but as you know Viator is a reseller platform with more than 4,000 tours in Rome. No additional tours were booked through When in Rome for your clients.
Massimo was a fantastic guide.
, May 2022
Massimo our tour guide was fantastic - he had a great sense of humour and was extremely knowledgable. The dome climb is a MUST. St Peters was the highlight for us - the Sistene Chapel was good as well, but after seeing everything else it wasnt as impressive as we had imagined it would be. This tour was a highlight for us - well worth the money and HIGHLY recommended.

We loved the tour. Massimo our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and fun to walk with. He was particularly adept at steering us through very busy areas of St Peter's and the Vatican with virtually no stress. We highly recommend!

This tour was absolutely great, our guide Massimo was fun, knowledgeable, and interesting. The hike to the top of the Basilica was 100% worth it for the views of the city.
