Meet your foodie guide in front of Lucca’s train station in the early afternoon, and hop on a provided bike for your two-wheeled tour around town. Join the many locals who get around by bike, as it's the ideal way to navigate the city’s flat but narrow medieval streets. Follow your guide on a leisurely sightseeing route that passes many local landmarks including the San Frediano church, Guinigi Tower, and plenty of other photo-worthy stops.

Start things off on a sweet note with a scoop of artisan gelato in your choice of decadent, seasonal flavors. Continue on to visit several of Lucca’s best delicatessens, where you can meet passionate purveyors and taste fine Tuscan products sourced from the surrounding countryside. Try nutty pecorino cheese from the Garfagnana Mountains, perfectly paired with mondiola salami and bruschetta. Learn about the raw ingredients used to make farro soup, a Luccan specialty, and try different varieties of extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Finally, pop into one of the bars built into the historic city walls for a glass of Sangiovese wine or a classic Italian cocktail, served with more typical snacks. Chat with your guide about the region’s culinary culture and get recommendations for authentic dinner spots before cycling back to the train station to finish the 3-hour tour.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Walls of Lucca
You'll begin your private tour with an action-packed ride around the city walls, stopping to explore hidden corners and to learn more about one of Italy’s most prosperous regions. We will pass by little squares with magnificent ancient church facades (San Frediano is the best) and noble palaces dating back to the Renaissance. Lofty medieval towers still feature prominently here; one of the most famous landmarks in Lucca is the beautiful Guinigi Tower with its ancient holm oak trees sprouting curiously over the top. We will pass by this one and many more, with plenty of opportunities for Instagram-friendly stops along the way. Then it’s time for our first foodie adventure and we will waste no time jumping straight into the good stuff. Artisan gelato to be precise. With a multitude of flavours to choose from, including many seasonal fruit varieties, you will find out why this classic Italian frozen dessert has become so ingrained into the national consciousness.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At:
Basilica of San Frediano
Back to our bikes for another gentle amble through the streets towards a series of charming delicatessens, stocked with the finest ingredients from the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Here we will meet local gourmands and taste some of the best pecorino cheese from the Garfagnana Mountains, along with mondiola salami and crunchy bruschetta. Buonissimi! One of Lucca’s most famous dishes is farro soup, made with the largely unheard of and highly underrated farro grain, which is grown locally amid the rolling, fertile hillscapes. Visit a local deli that sells the ingredients to make this classic dish, where our insider will let you in on the secrets to making a top-notch version. Next on our culinary journey are two of Italy’s greatest culinary exports: extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Taste delicious local varieties alongside some traditional local snacks and try to work out which is your favourite. Don’t forget to take a bottle or two home with you!

Lucca Bike Tour

Excellent bike tour of Lucca. Sara was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable about the city, its history and its food. It was more of a bike tour than food, but I would definitely recommend it.

Staff was great, bikes were great, variety of food was perfect. We learned just enough history & information about the city to feel connected. It was one of the best things we did.

We had a great bike tour with Luca of Lucca! It was an easy pace with interesting and delicious stops for gelato, olive oil and salamis and cheese and an aperitif. It was a great overview of the city and Luca had great stories about the rivalries between towns soccer-related and growing and bottling his own olive oil. We would highly recommend this tour.

I did with tour with my 16 year old daughter and we both loved it. Lucia is beautiful. We had the best gelato ever. And the stop at the food shop was great. The only thing I would change is getting a dessert at the last stop. I would highly recommend this tour.

Urban Adventures and tour guide Dileitalia made this tour most memorable. They hit all the high points- history, culture and food. Lucca has a very rideable wall that completely surrounds the city for easy access to Luccas attractions.
