Kalamata Historic Center Walking Tour

Telia, a true local, was such a great guide, and we had a great time! My husband used to visit Kalamata every summer as a child, but had not been back in decades, and even he loved the tour. Be aware, in the summer we toured in July, the tour is in the evening due to Greeces intense heat. It was still quite hot when we started at 6:30, but Telia almost made us forget this. She picked us up promptly at our hotel and welcomed us with traditional Kalamata gifts. Her enthusiasm and pride for her historic sea-side town is quite evident she almost made the stories come alive as we wandered through narrow lanes and into structures remaining from the ottoman occupation. We visited the nuns famous for their silk-making in true Greek fashion, they were upset we only have a dog and no kids and learned how parts of local churches were spared a true act of God! during the big earthquake. We ended our tour in the more active nightlife area of downtown where we were meeting family for dinner of course Telia would have driven us back to our hotel, but this timing and route was perfect for us. We enjoyed her company so much we would have had her join us if she didnt have her own family plans that evening! Take this tour if you visit Kalamata. It is well worth the money!
