Athens Private Full-Day Tour

Our guide Stavros was amazing. We are history enthusiasts, and Stavros was able to give us amazing details about various points in Athens' life.

Stavros was waiting for us at the cruise terminal and immediately began our tour. From the very beginning he educated us with his colorful and detailed history of Athens and the Athenean people. Our first stop was the Acropolis where Stavros explained in detail many of the sights and their significance. Upon arrival he got us our tickets (which was unexpected and very much appreciated as he was able to get them without waiting in the long tourist line). After enjoying the Acropolis we called and Stavros was there to pick us up in minutes. We then stopped at several stops including the old Olympic Stadium and the Temple of Greece. At each Stavros again provided a great deal of details which made each more interesting to the group. We then stopped in front of the Presidents residence to see the changing of the guards. This was better viewing than we had last time in Athens where we watched from the square again thanks to Stavros. We then went to the Plaka for a bite to eat and shopping. We agreed to a pick up time and place and Stavros was right on time. Last stop was to be Mt Lycabetttus but there was a fire warning on our day and the mountain was shut to visitors. At this point our day was over and Stavros brought us back to our ship happier and more educated than when we started. Highly recommend this tour and Stavros in particular. Thank you Stavros!

Stavros picked me up right outside of the Athens port and discussed what I wanted to see. He and I discussed many areas of the Greek culture. He completely briefed me about the Acropolis prior to dropping me off at the entrance, which was easy to get into since he was able to buy a ticket ahead of time, thus avoiding the ticket queue. Gave me as much time as I wanted at the Acropolis and then I asked him to take me to the museum. Fascinating place that links to what I had just seen at the Acropolis. I asked him to take me to the Temple of Zeus and passed the old Olympic stadium on the way. I then needed to get back to the ship, so I asked him to take me to the souvenir shop and to drop me off. Loved the discussions that we had, as they were back-and-forth discussions. You cannot go wrong with Stavros and I would highly recommend him. He is extremely knowledgeable in Greek history as well as religious history. Enjoyed the private tour!!

My friend and I spent the day with Stavros touring the major sights. This was a wonderful tour. Stavros met us right on time at our hotel. He was very personable and extremely knowledgeable. We had great discussions ranging from the ancient philosophers to the modern political and economic situations in Greece. We started at the Acropolis early in the morning which allowed us to beat most of the crowds. Stavros gave us a very detailed history of the Acropolis and then let us explore the ruins for about 45 minutes. We saw many more sights, including the changing of the guard and the Temple of Zeus. We were dropped off in the Plaka for lunch with good recommendations for restaurants and shops. Stavros suggested we visit the markets, which we are glad we did. The meat market gave a new meaning to fresh meats. After lunch, we went by the government buildings and the top of Lycabettus Hill for a view over the entire city. This was a great tour and Stavros was the perfect guide. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Our guide Yannis Hope I spelled his name correctly was just great working with our group for a full day tour in Athens. He was prompt at every stop and had a lot of suggestions about what to do in order to see some of the top sites in one day. Like many of these tours, there is a very thorough description of the what you're going to see when you stop in the van. If you want a private tour of the Parthenon, you need to arrange that separately. For our group that was fine... between the signage and our guide books we were fine. Yannis also suggested a great restaurant for lunch and showed us some great sights in the city along with making suggestions for other activities after the tour was over. For example, he advised us not to waste our time paying for a driver to see the Archaeological museum when you can do this on your own . I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a full day to discover Athens..My advice would be to spend some time planning what you want to see in advance to make full use of the car and driver. He is very well spoken about Athens and Greek history so ask him a lot of questions!

It was a very enjoyable visit to Athens and having a local guide helped.

Stavros Striligas did a great job with seeing the whole city in a matter of 6 hours. We started by looping around the coast then went to a high spot across from the Acropolis, what a view!!! Was watched the changing of the guards, which was a great experience - a do not miss! He was very knowledgeable about the city and the history. We were dropped for lunch in the shopping district. Lunch was really good, seemed like a tourist trap but was not. sorry I do not remember the name of the restaurant. The owners let us go on top of the roof for a great city center view, jewel in the middle of the bussel. We concluded our tour with the Acropolis, mild hike steps, it was very hot July so bring plenty of water. The view from there across to where we started was a great perspective. apologize for not knowing what the cross view was called. Stavros was very personable , not too talky, not too quiet, the perfect guide. You need to book with him instead of the cruise tours, much cheaper and you are on your own schedule!!! Sorry this is a bit late but wanted to make sure we shared our thoughts.
