The Basics

The historic highlight of Santorini, Ancient Akrotiri is often visited on islandwide sightseeing tours by bus, minivan, or private vehicle. While the settlement can be explored independently, it’s more rewarding to go with a guide who can provide some context to the ruins.

Some Santorini tours combine a guided visit to Akrotiri with trips to picturesque Greek towns and villages such as Oia, Pyrgos, Megalochori, and Emporio; free time for swimming and sunbathing at stretches such as Perissa Beach or Red Beach; and wine tastings.

Archaeological bus tour to Akrotiri excavations & Red beach
We enjoyed Akrotiri very much and learning about this ancient civilization. Weather was too cold to swim at Black Beach and I thought the walk down to Red Beach was very long and you cannot swim there. We were completely unaware of the stops at Monastery, Village, and winery as these were not mentioned in description and made the day quite long.

We had great tour with a wonderful guide. Georgia was very informative, knowledgeable, and friendly. She was very efficient in her presentation, and answered all our questions. She kept the tour moving and it's very clear that she takes pride in the Akrotiri Archeological Site. We highly recommend her and the tour. We had a private family tour.

Private Cultural Villages Sightseeing & Akrotiri Excavations
Our personal tour guide Elena was amazing. She shared so many Greek history and traditions with us that we would have gotten from a generic tour group. She also took us to many parts of the city that had the most interesting history.. She told how the people made bridges from roof to roof to hide from pirates that would come to the islands. She personable, knowledgeable and engaging on all levels. We bumped into her in Santorini again the next day and it was like we saw an old friend..

Tour guide Mariana explained many details of beautiful Akrotiri. You can certainly tour this site by yourself, however having the knowledgeable guide made it come alive for us. We were picked up from our hotel in Oia on time by a professional driver and followed a scenic route to Akrotiri. Highly recommended!

Santorini Tour with Akrotiri & Oia Sunset
Tour did not start off well as we were waiting for 45 minutes for pick up. There were only 7 tourists out of which 3 were only French speaking. Apart from that, tour was fantastic and guide Iannis and his driver were excellent.

Half-Day Santorini South Coast and Akrotiri Tour from Fira
Tanya and Nikos were wonderful. I have MS and need a walker to get around. They were so accommodating, helpful and courteous to me and my disability. My sister and I loved Tanya's fun way of telling us about this beautiful area. She was so outgoing, amusing, knowledgeable and fun. Recommend this tour to all who want to have a great time in Santorini.
