The Basics

Notre Dame's immense interior—with its fluted columns, ribbed vaults, and prismatic windows—is a fantastic example of French Gothic architecture. Guided tours that include skip-the-line entry are the best way to visit the cathedral; not only will you avoid long lines, but your guide's expertise will ensure you notice even subtle details.

The cathedral can also be visited as part of a full-day Paris sightseeing tour—itineraries typically cover places such as the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, and Montmartre, or include a Seine River cruise, and provide insight into the history and culture of France.

Perfect snapshot
Amazing tour and great tour guide Olivia. Get to see a snapshot of Paris. The riding itself is not very strenuous or difficult and you ride on bike paths most of the time. Perfect to see all the sights in one go with some historical information to go with it.

Notre Dame Quartier Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie 2H Private Tour in Paris
Fabulous private tour with Bonaparte Tours. Maurizio was super knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He told us memorable anecdotes and brought history alive. He also added a unexpectedstint into the Conciergerie. Bonaparte tours have been amazing.

Notre Dame's Island with Sainte Chapelle and Marie Antoinette's prison
I highly recommend small group tours due to the personalized attention and the stories and details the guide shares. The guide was very knowledgeable and painted a vivid picture of what life was like in and around these amazing historic structures. St. Chappelle and Saint Serevin were magnificent. A good tour guide makes all the difference!

Paris Highlights Bike Tour with Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Notre-Dame
Our family enjoyed this overview on bikes and liked our guide. He was relaxed and friendly. His information was given in appropriate depth for this sort of tour. Our bikes were of good quality and we felt entertained and not stressed by the traffic or pace, having endured an overnight flight from the USA.

Paris Highlights Bike Tour with Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Notre-Dame
We enjoyed a wonderful bike ride through Paris with our guide, Lena. A group of ten was just the right size. Lena stopped at a number of sights and with the use of some photos, gave us the history of each point of interest. It was obvious that she knew her history of Paris as she gave us some insight into each stop. Lunch stop was good, timing was right for a short break. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the bike ride and would highly recommend Blue Bike Tours.

Notre Dame Quartier Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie 2H Private Tour in Paris
The tour was excellent. We really enjoyed our tour guide Mauricio who did a great job. I was concerned that the tour would not be great because of the Notre Dame fire. However, Mauricio toured us around the cathedral and told us what happened and what the current status was on the reconstruction. He also gave us a lot of information about the cathedral. The tour of St. Chapelle was also excellent.

Notre Dame's Island with Sainte Chapelle and Marie Antoinette's prison
John, is by far the best guide you could ever ask for. He is not only knowledgeable, but it is evident that he loves what he does. St. Chappel, Marie Antoinette's prison and other sites were well worth the tour

Notre Dame Quartier Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie 2H Private Tour in Paris
We had a wonderful, personal experience seeing the history of Notre Dame, the Conciergerie and Sainte Chapelle. We really enjoyed the history of the Conciergerie. It makes us want to read more about this time. Since it was just us and our guide we could ask so many questions. It was a great morning full of history and fun.

Notre Dame Quartier Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie 2H Private Tour in Paris
This was the best part of our trip! Our Guide went out of his way to find us when the area was closed down for an special event. It was a immersion of beautiful places, humor and amazing history!! I think our Guide has history running through his veins.

How to Get There

Notre Dame's central location makes it incredibly easy to reach by public transport: take the RER B or RER C line to St-Michel Notre Dame, or disembark at Cite on Line 4 of the Metro. To arrive on foot, follow the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower for a one-hour walk brimming with Parisian highlights and hidden gems.

When to Get There

In the evening, the square before the cathedral comes to life in a riot of music and performance. Watch street performers juggle fire, grab a bite from a vendor, or simply admire Notre Dame illuminated by night. If visiting Paris in winter, head to Notre Dame right before closing to watch the sunset and see the City of Light twinkle.

Gothic Paris

Notre Dame Cathedral may be one of the most famous examples of French Gothic architecture in the capital, but it's far from the only one. Explore more Parisian Gothic at the Cluny Museum, home to half a dozen impressive wall hangings; head to Saint Chapelle to admire some of the most beautiful medieval stained glass; or stop by Sainte Severin in the fifth arrondissement.
