Blue Caves

Ionian Islands, Greece

The Basics

Blue Caves is set amidst Zakynthos' landscape of steep coastal cliffs, green valleys, and crystalline beach coves. Reach the caves on a private or small-group day cruise or boat tour that skirts the coast. Combine a visit to Blue Caves with one to Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach). Or, explore the island’s coastline by land on a driving tour with a stop at Blue Caves to board a glass-bottomed boat for a quick grotto trip.

Nice tour
Nice guide, good communication. A God tour to view shipwreck and blue caves. The other stops on the tour are rather short but we already saw them so that was fine by us

Zakynthos island: One day tour to Navagio Shipwreck Beach Blue Caves & top view
Great tour, very well organized. You will explore the island in a very nice Mercedes-Van that takes you to Bohali and then to the breathtaking view point of Navagio. Then you get on you a superb boat trip to Navagio & Blue Caves, have lunch (which was OK, nothing more), wine tasting and see Cameo Island! And…Spiros, funny, competent, kind and helpful - great tourguide! Best, Niko & Carla

VIP All Day private tour Shipwreck-Blue Caves-view point
The trip was a fantastic day around the island. George was our tour guide and he is friendly, energetic and showed us a real good time. There was a full boat which a little tight, but overall the trip was amazing! Driving through the whole island seeing Laganas, the port, monastery and swimming in the Blue Caves was my favorite. Wonderful tour!!

Zakynthos All Day Tour Shipwreck beach, view point-Blue Caves, small groups
This tour is a must to see the main gems of Zakynthos. Only the best feedback and memories will last a lifetime. Best wishes and thanks to the tour guide, George. He is also one of the pearls of Zakynthos, who not only made the day unforgettable but also took great care of the safety of each of us!

Zakynthos island: One day tour to Navagio Shipwreck Beach Blue Caves & top view
I absolutely loved this tour! We got to see so many beautiful sights in just one day. Navagio beach, Navagio viewpoint and Blue Caves were absolutely breathtaking. Our guide Dennis was the best! He told us so many interesting stories and jokes about the island. He has such a bubbly personality, therefore it was so fun to have him as our guide. Overall I definitely recommend to do this tour while you are in Zakynthos!

Zakynthos All Day Tour Shipwreck beach, view point-Blue Caves, small groups
It is definitely worth it, we saw the shipwreck from top unfortunately due to rough season, we could not swim at that specific beach, the guide ( I forgot both their names) was accommodating and brought us to other swimming spots with calmer waters. The team was made our safety and well being top priority and was always concern for our enjoyment. A+!! 👍👍👍👍👍

From St Nikolaos port: Boat cruise to navagio shipwreck beach and blue caves
Parking area is at the north end or far end of the port by the yellow flag. Captain was very knowledgeble and friendly. Explained the itinerary. Boat was clean and well maintained. Crew was helpful for passengers getting on and off the boat. Only suggestion I have is to announce that smoking is not permitted onboard for the enjoyment of those who do not like cigarettes or smoking. One passenger lit up a cigarette every 5 minutes and another just threw the butts in the water.

Highly recommend the tour. They were so organized, well plan and our guide Spyros was amazing. They did a few photo stops for us including a coffee break before the boat tour. The vehicle was very comfy.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Blue Caves can only be accessed by sea, either on a day cruise or via one of the tourist boats that depart from a nearby beach.

  • Bring your camera to capture the colorful caves.

  • Passengers must be agile enough to board and disembark on boat tours, so travelers with limited mobility should confirm accessibility in advance.

  • Be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the Mediterranean sun.

  • Most boat tours that include a stop for swimming provide snorkeling gear, but bring your own swimsuit and towel.

How to Get to There

The Blue Caves are located on the northern coastline of Zakynthos, east of Cape Skinari. They can only be reached via boat. You can see them as part of a boat tour or day cruise along the coastline or by taking a driving tour to a nearby beach and boarding a tourist boat that takes small groups into the caves.

When to Get There

The caves glow brightest in the morning, though they are deeply colored on any sunny day. Avoid visiting on overcast days when sunlight is too dim to create the dramatic reflections for which the caves are famous.

Zakynthos’ Most Famous Shipwreck

On many lists of the world's most beautiful beaches, Navagio Beach on Zakynthos is distinguished by a ship that ran aground in 1980 and was abandoned here to rust. You can visit this picturesque spot, sometimes called Shipwreck Beach or Smuggler’s Cove, by boat to see the shipwreck up close. To view it from above, drive or take a tour to a marked viewpoint set high in the cliffs.
